About Allergies
Food allergies are relatively common in children with an estimated 6 percent being affected. If your baby has a food allergy, your child's immune system reacts to a particular food as an intruder. When a baby eats, the body releases antibodies that cause allergic reactions. The most common food allergens for young children are eggs, milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, tree nuts (like walnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews), fish (like tuna, salmon, and cod), and shellfish (like lobster, shrimp, and crab). Watch our videos to learn more about how to tell if your child has an allergy and what you can do to help.
