Video Description:Your eyelids may be small, but they can have a big impact on your appearance! Take a peek at eyelid surgery. Transcript:Although small in size, your eyelids can have a big impact on your appearance. Wendy Lewis, an international beauty consultant and expert, and author of America's Cosmetic Doctors, is here to help you decide if cosmetic eyelid surgery is right for you.  The delicate eyelids have the thinnest skin on the body and tend to show signs of aging earliest. Eyelid rejuvenation can resolve droopy or hooded eyelids, re-establish the crease of the upper lids, and reduce protruding fat bags and slack muscles under the eyes.  The overall result is a refreshed and less tired appearance.  A tired appearance may be caused by excess upper eyelid skin, puffiness of the lower eyelid area, or a combination of both. These physical changes are a natural result of aging, and can be rejuvenated with a simple surgery.  The actual surgery may take from one to three hours depending on the technique used and the extent of the procedure.  For lower eyelid surgery, an incision is made adjacent to the lower lashes. The surgeon lifts the skin and muscle and, if necessary, removes a small amount of fat. Excess skin and muscle are trimmed from the lower lid. In some cases, an additional procedure to tighten the lower eyelid horizontally may be required. If you have a pocket of fat beneath your lower eyelids without any loose skin, you may be able to have a less-invasive surgery which utilizes an incision hidden inside the lower eyelid so there is no visible scar. Laser resurfacing may be performed at the same time to tighten and smooth the skin and reduce discoloration. Upper eyelid surgery involves making an incision across the natural eyelid fold.  Excess skin and fatty tissue are removed, along with a thin strip of muscle to give the eyelid crease more definition. This produces a wide eyed or open look that is more youthful, without making you look different. In some cases, a brow lift procedure may also be done to correct sagging brows.  Surgery can be performed in your surgeon’s office, under local anesthetic. Most people can return normal activities in a week.  While most surgeries are a success, rare complications may include asymmetries, wide scars, too much skin or fat being removed, pulled down lower eyelids, and dry eye syndrome.  Your scars may remain slightly pink for several months, but will eventually fade to a thin line in most cases.   For best results, cosmetic eyelid surgery should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon. You should consult with two or more doctors to review all your options.  Cosmetic eyelid surgery can enhance your appearance and make you look less tired. Of all the cosmetic surgery procedures, it offers the most dramatically visible improvement with a short recovery time and predictable results.
