Video Description:The kindergarten classroom doesn't have to be a germy war-zone! Try these tips to help your child stay happy and healthy all year. Transcript: As a parent, you want well-behaved kids, but did you know that good old-fashioned manners could actually make them sick? You’ve told them to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. While this may be good etiquette, it’s bad health news! Colds and flu spread through mucous and saliva droplets that are passed from person to person. That means that sneezing or wiping your nose with your hands is how the flu gets spread throughout your family. Therefore, it’s actually smart to teach children to use their sleeves to sneeze into. In addition, encouraging special attention to hand-washing is vital. Instruct them to sing the “The Happy Birthday Song” to themselves while they wet their hands, add soap, and scrub. This averages out to the twenty seconds that hand washing should take. Teaching your kids these simple practices may seem silly, but it will keep them happy and healthy, no matter how fast flu germs fly!
