Would you rather pay hundreds of dollars for cardio equipment or get the same heart healthy work-out for free? If you chose option two, you can move to the head of the - exercise! -class. Now, find a set of stairs, and get ready to move! A. Face the stairs and step up with your right foot. B. Follow with your left. C. Then step back down, one foot at a time. Continue in this up, up, down, down pattern, keeping your back straight. It sounds pretty simple, but that 400-dollar stair stepper at the gym? Same thing! This exercise is a great way to get your heart’s myocardium pumping. The myocardium is the muscle that makes your heart beat, usually sixty to eighty times a minute. As you get used to stair stepping, you can supplement your routine with brisk walking (see ya, treadmill), or stair running (later, elliptical machine!)
