For young women, more than 80% of breast lumps are benign, as women age, the risk for breast cancer increases, which means that the percentage of benign breast lumps in older women may be much lower than in younger women. Take charge of your health by performing routine breast self-exams, establishing ongoing communication with your doctor, and scheduling regular mammograms. If YOU discover a persistent lump in your breast or any changes in breast tissue, it’s VERY IMPORTANT that you see a doctor immediately, because catching cancer early SIGNIFICANTLY increases the chances of recovery.
